Málaga Airport: Terminal Information
Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport operates across two passenger terminals: Terminal 2 (T2) handles the majority of international and domestic flights, while Terminal 3 (T3) serves additional international routes. Both terminals are connected by a covered walkway, so even if your flight arrives at T3, reaching your driver is straightforward. Always confirm your terminal when booking so your driver is positioned in exactly the right arrivals hall. You can check live flight and terminal information via the official Málaga Airport website.
Meet & Greet: How It Works
Your driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall of your designated terminal, holding a board displaying your name. Flight tracking is included as standard, meaning your driver monitors your arrival in real time — if your flight lands early or is delayed, your pickup time adjusts automatically. There is no waiting around, no scrambling for change, and no sharing the vehicle with strangers heading to different resorts. Once you and your luggage are confirmed, you proceed directly to your private vehicle in the airport car park.
Public Transport Alternatives — and Why Private Wins
There is no direct train service from Málaga Airport to Nerja. The Málaga Metro connects the airport to the city centre, but Nerja is not served by rail at all. The most realistic public alternative is the ALSA bus service, which operates from Málaga city's main bus station (Estación de Autobuses de Málaga), requiring you first to take the metro or a taxi from the airport to the bus station, then board a coach to Nerja — a combined journey that can easily take 2.5 to 3 hours with connections, luggage in tow, and potential waits between services. You can review ALSA bus timetables for the Málaga–Nerja route if you wish to compare.
By contrast, a private transfer delivers you door to door in under 75 minutes, with no connections, no timetables to chase, and the freedom to be dropped at your villa, apartment, or hotel anywhere in Nerja — including outlying areas such as Maro or the Balcón de Europa seafront.
Luggage Allowance & Vehicle Options
Standard saloon transfers comfortably accommodate up to 3 passengers with typical holiday luggage (2 checked bags and carry-on per person). For larger groups or families travelling with pushchairs, golf bags, or extra suitcases, an MPV or minivan is recommended. Always declare your luggage requirements at the time of booking — there are no hidden charges for standard baggage, and accurate information ensures the right vehicle is allocated.
Nerja: Arrival Tips
Nerja is a compact but characterful town, and some narrow streets near the old quarter and Balcón de Europa can be challenging for larger vehicles. Providing your driver with the full address or hotel name in advance allows them to plan the optimal approach. If you're staying in a rural finca or a property accessed via an unmade track, mention this when booking. For inspiration on what awaits you, the Costa del Sol Tourism Board's Nerja guide provides an excellent overview of the town and surrounding attractions.
Booking Tips for This Route
- Book in advance during summer — July and August are peak season on the Axarquía coast, and availability fills quickly.
- Enter your full flight number so your driver can track any delays or early arrivals automatically.
- If travelling with children, request child seats at the time of booking — they are available but must be reserved ahead.
- For late-night or early-morning arrivals, confirm your accommodation's check-in procedure before you travel, as some Nerja properties operate key-safe entry after hours.
- Return transfers back to Málaga Airport should be booked with a minimum 3-hour lead time before your flight, accounting for summer traffic on the coastal road.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the transfer from Málaga Airport to Nerja take?
The journey is typically 50 to 75 minutes covering around 55–60 km via the A-7/N-340 coastal road. In peak summer months, particularly on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, traffic near the eastern suburbs of Málaga and the resort towns en route can add 15–20 minutes, so factor this in when planning your itinerary.
Which terminal at Málaga Airport will my driver meet me at?
Your driver will meet you in the arrivals hall of whichever terminal your flight uses — either Terminal 2 or Terminal 3. Confirm your terminal at the time of booking. If you are unsure, check your boarding pass or the Málaga Airport arrivals board on the day. Your driver will be holding a name board and will already have your flight tracked.
Is there a direct bus from Málaga Airport to Nerja?
There is no direct bus from the airport to Nerja. The ALSA coach service runs from Málaga city bus station, meaning you must first travel from the airport to the city centre (by metro or taxi), then board the Nerja-bound coach. Total journey time including connections is typically 2.5–3 hours. A private transfer is considerably faster and more convenient, particularly after a long flight with luggage.
Can I be dropped off in Maro or at a rural property outside Nerja town centre?
Yes. Private transfers cover the entire Nerja municipality, including Maro village, the coastal urbanisations, and rural properties in the surrounding hills. Simply provide the full address at the time of booking. For properties on narrow lanes or unmade tracks, noting this in the booking comments helps your driver plan the best approach route.

A good, profesional driver
Initially I was worried about landing with my family and the car not turning up, then the flight was delayed by over an hour and that added more worry. Whilst I was still waiting to board I received a text message from the taxi company saying that the flight was delayed, they were tracking it, and not to worry. When I landed I received a text message with the driver contact details, his arrival time and his photo!! When we came through he was standing there with our name on a smart looking tablet! He was great, he ran us around during our stay a few times and we had him again when it was time to leave.
Booked my transfer with ridetransferdirect.com and the process couldn’t have been easier, one thing that surprised me was that I could track the vehicle in real time from the SMS message they sent me when the car was dispatched, impressive!
